CAMPAIGNING THE RUSSIAN WAY
9/9/2009 9:37:21 AM
In election time in Western-Europe, most candidates are helped by supporters who speak out on their behalf in a positive campaign. But with municipal elections coming up in Autumn in the Russian city of Astrakhan, political enemies of Oleg Shein who is running for Mayor started a dirty campaign calling him a liar and a nitwit.

In the tabloid-sized pamphlet “Stop” fully dedicated to Mr. Shein's vices, a local school director is quoted as saying that he will destroy Astrakhan. “We don't want a demagogue and we don't want a Mayor who does not love Astrakhan”, he says.
According to a member of the City Council, Mr. Shein is an unexperienced nitwit and he accuses him of lying and betrayal.
One of the Astrakhan entrepreneurs labels him as incapable of running the city and states that if he is elected the city "will go bust as soon as next year".
